AllOutdoor Review: Anker Laptop Power Bank – Built for the Wild

Anker was founded in 2011 by Steven Yang, a former Google engineer, and is a Chinese electronics company headquartered in Changsha, Hunan, known for its high-quality consumer electronics, particularly in charging technology products. Starting with a focus on laptop batteries, Anker has quickly expanded into power banks, chargers, cables, under brands like Soundcore, Eufy, and Nebula. The company gained a strong reputation for blending innovative design, reliability, and competitive pricing, and this has helped them become one of the biggest charging brands in the world. I have been using Anker products for years now and have always looked at them as being a premium brand. I reached out to Anker a little over a month ago and asked them to send me a few products for review, and they were very fast to ship them right to my door. One of those products was the Anker Laptop Power Bank, and man, has this thing gotten some use lately at my house, on the road, and in the woods.

The Anker Laptop Power Bank was provided for this review by Anker, and while I am allowed to keep this product after the conclusion of this review, this will not change my opinion on any of Anker’s current or Future offerings.

First Impressions and Design – Anker Laptop Power Bank

First impression do set the stage for how you will feel about a product, and that’s especially true when you’re a gear reviewer.  When I first unboxed the Anker Laptop Power Bank, it was a callback to how Apple always packages their products in a sleek cardboard box. This power bank follows suit with its modern, rounded-edge aesthetic that feels premium in hand. At approximately 15.7 × 5.4 × 4.9 cm and weighing 555 grams (1.31 pounds), it’s not the lightest power bank, but it also has a lot of juice. Even though this power bank is a bit heavy, its also very compact. This power bank is also Airplane carry-on approved, and that’s something we can all appreciate when your charging port in your seat is no longer working.

What sets this power bank apart is its dual built-in USB-C cables. One is a retractable 2.3-foot cable with a magnetic end that snaps neatly into the body, preventing tangles, and is apparently rated for over 20,000 retractions. The other is a shorter 0.98-foot cable that doubles as a carrying strap, capable of withstanding over 20,000 bends. While the strap cable occasionally detaches from its clip, it’s a minor inconvenience compared to the convenience of not needing to carry extra cables. The power bank also features a high-resolution LCD display showing real-time battery level, power output, and temperature, which I found incredibly useful for monitoring performance on the go.

Charging My Laptop – Anker Laptop Power Bank

The Anker Laptop Power Bank’s ability to charge laptops is where it truly shines. With a total output of 165W and three USB-C ports (each delivering up to 100W), plus a 33W USB-A port, it’s designed to handle power-hungry devices like my MacBook Pro. During a recent work trip, I used it to charge my MacBook from 20% to 90% in about an hour, which is impressive for a portable charger. Anker claims it can charge a MacBook Pro to 50% in roughly 30 minutes, and my real-world tests aligned closely with this, hitting 51% in just over half an hour.

What I love most is the ability to charge multiple devices simultaneously without significant performance drops. On one occasion, I charged my MacBook while my girlfriend also charged her Dell laptop in bed together one evening. The power bank distributed the power efficiently across both ports. That being said, the power band was very hot after this and needed to cool for a bit before it would accept a charge. Thankfully, the display showed me this so I could know why the power bank would not accept a charge.  My girlfriend also loves to steal this power bank out of my office when she is working from home, her laptop battery is getting low. Suffice it to say, she has used this charger every day for the past month.

When charging two devices, it delivers up to 165W, though this drops to 130W with three or four devices connected. For my needs, this was more than sufficient, as my MacBook typically draws around 80W, leaving plenty of power for my other gadgets. The Power Delivery (PD) 3.0 technology ensures compatibility with a wide range of devices, from Apple to Samsung and Windows laptops, making it a versatile power bank. That’s something I have always appreciated about Anker products: they are always incorporating smart tech into their products to make sure you don’t fry your stuff.

Travel Companion – Anker Laptop Power Bank

Traveling, whether by plane, train, or car often means you can be scrambling for power outlets, but the Anker Power Bank eliminated that stress. Its 90Wh capacity is flight-approved, making it a perfect carry-on companion. While I have not been able to take this power bank on any flights at this point, I can still speak to its usefulness in travel situations. During a real estate shoot I had last week, I needed to bring a lot of gear with me to document the property. Unfortunately, there were only a few power outlets in the cabin I was shooting so to make sure my Drone and Camera Batteries were topped off, I used this power bank, and it was a lifesaver. The built-in cables were a lifesaver, as I didn’t have to rummage through my bag for loose cords or worry about forgetting them at home. The retractable cable’s 2.3-foot length was ideal for reaching my devices comfortably.

The power bank’s compact size easily fits into my laptop bag or into my camera gear case, and the carrying strap cable added a practical touch for quick access. The LCD display was particularly handy during travel, letting me monitor the remaining battery level and power draw in real time.

Outdoor Usability – Anker Laptop Power Bank

As an avid camper, I often find myself off the grid, relying on my devices for navigation, photography, and staying connected. The Anker Power Bank proved its worth during a recent weekend camping trip. Its 25,000mAh capacity (equivalent to about 13,750–17,500mAh after energy loss) was enough to charge my iPhone 16 Pro approximately four times, as Anker claims, and still had power left for my camera and a friend’s tablet. I used the retractable cable to charge my phone while sitting by the campfire, and the 2.3-foot length allowed me to keep the power bank safely tucked away in my bag.

The power bank’s durability was a standout feature in the outdoors. The rugged build and rubberized base kept it secure on uneven surfaces, and the cables felt sturdy even after repeated use. The shorter strap cable was less practical for charging devices at a distance, but I appreciated its dual function as a handle for carrying the power bank around the campsite. The LCD display was a godsend in low-light conditions, clearly showing the battery status without needing to squint. One minor drawback was the weight—555 grams felt noticeable in my backpack after a long hike—but the convenience of not needing extra cables and the ability to charge multiple devices made it worth carrying.

Minor Drawbacks – Anker Laptop Power Bank

While the Anker Power Bank is nearly perfect for my needs, it’s not without minor flaws. The weight and thickness make it better suited for a bag than a pocket, which might be a consideration for those who need a more pocket-friendly option. The strap cable’s tendency to unclip occasionally was a slight annoyance, though it didn’t impact functionality. Some people might find the 165W output overkill if they only charge smaller devices, and in such cases, a lighter, lower-capacity power bank could suffice. Lastly, while the $99.99–$119.99 price point (depending on the region) feels fair for the features, it’s definitely a premium investment compared to basic power banks.

Wrap Up – Anker Laptop Power Bank

This Anker Laptop Power Bank has earned a permanent spot in my travel and camping gear. Its ability to charge my MacBook quickly and reliably, combined with the convenience of built-in cables and a clear LCD display, makes it a great choice for power-hungry users like myself.  For travelers, the flight-approved capacity and compact design ensure uninterrupted productivity, while campers will appreciate its durability and multi-device charging capabilities. Despite minor drawbacks like its weight and the occasional strap cable issue, the benefits far outweigh the cons.
