I’ve had the 5.11 Allhaula Duffel 70L sitting around all summer, but didn’t really put it to work until a three-day camping trip up north. Rain, mud, truck beds, and the usual beating that comes with hauling gear around this bag saw it all that weekend. Want to see how it held up?
5.11 Coverage on AllOutdoor:
Specifications: 5.11 Tactical Allhaula Duffel 70L
The 5.11 Allhaula Duffel 70L is built around the idea that your gear bag should be as tough as you are. 5.11 packed some serious features into this thing – highly weather-resistant TPU coating, wide mouth opening, removable carry handles, stowable shoulder straps, two mesh zippered pockets under the lid, adjustable internal divider/compression panel, padded bottom, and external gear loops. They also offer a Skyweight Hip Belt as an optional add-on.
- Capacity: 70 liters (4272 cubic inches)
- Dimensions: 11.5″H x 25″L x 13″D
- Material: TPU coated 840D nylon
- Color: Volcanic (my example), or Sage Green
The MSRP of $220 is pretty steep for a duffel bag. You’re paying for that TPU coating and heavy-duty construction, but it’s still a chunk of change for what amounts to a glorified gear hauler. 5.11 builds this thing like it’s meant to get abused, and the price reflects that overbuilt approach. Strip away the tactical marketing speak about “gear for the chosen,” and you’ve got a seriously overbuilt duffel designed to take punishment.
“If you make it to Valhalla, odds are you’ll be handed this bag. The Allhaula Duffel 70L is built like it’s meant to carry a warrior’s load—because it is. With stowable shoulder straps and bottom padding, it delivers serious comfort when the haul gets heavy.
A storm-flapped, wide-mouth opening makes packing fast and frustration-free. Compression straps lock the load down tight, and a zippered mesh pocket keeps your mission-critical gear right where you need it. Made from ultra-tough 840D nylon with a TPU waterproof coating, the Allhaula 70L doesn’t just carry—it conquers. This isn’t luggage. It’s gear for the chosen.”
First Look: 5.11 Tactical Allhaula Duffel 70L
Right out of the box, this feels like a different animal than your typical duffel. The TPU coating gives it an almost rubberized texture. It’s not sticky exactly, but definitely tacky to the touch. It’s got real weight and substance even when empty.
The wide-mouth opening is massive when you unzip it fully. You’re looking at a cavern that’ll swallow whatever you throw at it. The removable divider panel is actually useful. It lets you create compartments or go full cargo hold, depending on what you’re packing. Without any wall support like you’d get with a harder pack, it does sag a bit when loaded, but nothing that hurts function.
Out & About: 5.11 Tactical Allhaula Duffel 70L
I loaded this thing to capacity: four days worth of clothes, toiletries, an iPad for work, a project binder, and shoes. The compression straps locked everything down tight. It was in and out of truck beds, tents, and the cabin all weekend, getting tossed around like gear does. The waterproof claims got put to the test. It rained all weekend, and this bag got wet multiple times. Not a drop made it inside. The TPU coating does exactly what 5.11 says it will. My gear stayed bone dry even when the bag was sitting in puddles in my truck bed.
Those shoulder straps are nothing to write home about. When the bag’s fully loaded, they feel supported and normal. It didn’t hurt or anything, but it wasn’t like sitting back into a recliner either. The padded handles are actually more comfortable for shorter hauls.
I liked the shoe pouch – it keeps dirty boots separate from clean clothes. The waterproof skin is nice, although it feels a bit fragile, as if it got caught on something sharp or dragged across rough concrete, it might tear. It’s just a feeling I have, with no evidence to support it, but the material gives that impression.
After a weekend of abuse, everything held up perfectly. Zippers are smooth, compression straps work as advertised, and I can’t find any weak points in the construction. Nothing broke, wore out, or disappointed me. It handles like the utilitarian piece of kit 5.11 designed it to be – you can get it dirty, wet, and beaten up without worrying about it.
Final Thoughts: 5.11 Tactical Allhaula Duffel 70L
This bag does what 5.11 says it will. It’s waterproof, tough, and handles heavy loads without complaint. The design means you don’t have to baby it – get it dirty, toss it around, leave it in the rain. It shrugs off abuse that would trash a regular travel bag. The price is hard to swallow. $220 is serious money for a duffel, even one built this well. You’re paying for materials and construction that are definitely above average, but I don’t normally drop this kind of cash on a gear bag. If you need something bombproof and can justify the cost, it delivers. 5.11 continues to make gear that simply works.
Would I recommend it? Yeah, 5.11 is great. If you’re hard on your gear and need something that won’t quit, this won’t let you down. Just know what you’re buying; this isn’t a casual travel bag. It’s a tool for people who beat up their equipment.
In closing, I want to say thank you to 5.11 Tactical for allowing AllOutdoor and myself the opportunity to try out their Allhaula Duffel 70L. That is greatly appreciated.
