While deer and waterfowl season is pretty much done throughout the US, we get one more hunt before the fall with Spring Turkey coming up. Last year, I got the Kifaru Rogan Run-N-Gun Belt for spring turkey season. While I generally use a backpack to take gear out into the woods for turkey, the Rogan Run-N-Gun was a slimmer storage option that keeps everything you need right in reach. I used it for the Georgia turkey season for several hunts and in the fall again for walking the dove fields. Let’s see how it held up and performed for the past year in the woods.

Out In the Field: Kifaru Rogan Run-N-Gun
So for the Spring Turkey Season, I replaced my usual backpack with the Rogan Run-N-Gun. While I don’t need too much gear to turkey hunt, it’s usually just enough stuff to need a bag to comfortably carry it around. So my first thought while walking out to the roost was how much more streamlined it was to have everything at my belt line compared to my back . Besides my decoys and shotgun, everything else easily fit into the compact Run-N-Gun. Once actually set up at the spot, opening the front pouch of the main Rogan body gives you easy access to your calls with minimal movement. It also gives you a dry spot to put your calls down into when you need to grab something else, that way you keep your slate dry.

It honestly was super convenient to have everything in front of me instead of some stuff in a backpack. No twisting around to reach into a backpack, just unzip a pouch to get whatever you need. No rummaging to get your water bottle, it’s all right there at your fingertips. Then, for moving spots, just zip up the pouches and get up. And while last spring wasn’t a successful season for us, I did get more use out of the belt for dove season in the fall. The Run-N-Gun was just as comfortable to walk the dove fields in, with a pouch of #7.5 shells and a water bottle. The main pouch worked in a pinch to store a dove or two before getting back to the cooler.

Final Thoughts: Kifaru Rogan Run-N-Gun
Overall, I think the Kifaru Rogan Run-N-Gun is a solid choice for anyone who wants to be super mobile and lightweight this turkey season. Not having to carry my turkey hunting odds and ends in a backpack was pretty nice, not having another layer on top of my back was great, especially when wearing layers of camo later on in the Spring season. The ability to shed extra heat was great, especially on some of the hillier properties I turkey hunt on. The dual pouches of the Rogan main body let me off-body carry my Tyrant CNC Macro P365, while having space for a slate call and headlamp in the other pouch. Also, for off-body carrying, I found the front pouch to be quicker access than having my EDC under my camo. The reinforced webbing of the belt also did a great job of holding weight during the hikes. Even with a pistol, a box of turkey shells, a water bottle, and calls, the webbing didn’t warp or bend while moving.

Though I do need to say, as a guy who identifies with the statement “I’m in shape, but round is also a shape.” The reinforced webbing can be a bit uncomfortable to sit with, depending on how and where you are sitting. With how still you have to be while turkey hunting, and how suddenly a bird can show up. Shifting around due to discomfort could be the reason you lose that big tom. Which is no fault of the product, but for us bigger fellas, should be taken into consideration, but so should doing more cardio. Though now that I think about it, the simple answer is that you can reverse the belt around while you sit. So, my final thoughts on the Kifaru Run-N-Gun are that it’s for hunters who want a USA-made product that’ll help them stay mobile without sacrificing gear accessibility.
