Henry just announced two new additions to the H1 lineup and both are now chambered in .22 Magnum. The Youth Model and the Garden Gun. Two guns that already had a solid following and now they have a little more punch behind them.
The H1 Classic Youth Model in .22 WMR (H001Y-22M) is the one that probably makes the most sense on paper. The .22 LR Youth Model has been a go-to first rifle for a long time and for good reason. It is light, the action is smooth, and it is easy for a kid to run. The .22 Magnum version keeps all of that intact. Same 4.5 lb. weight, same 13″ length of pull, same 16.5″ blued barrel and adjustable semi-buckhorn rear sight.

You get 10 rounds on tap and a 3/8″ grooved receiver if a scope is in the future. American walnut stock, which honestly you do not see at this price point very often. MSRP lands at $540. The idea here is pretty straightforward. A kid who has put in the range time and is ready to step into small game hunting now has a youth-sized rifle that can actually do the job.

The Garden Gun is the one I find more interesting though. The H1 Garden Gun (H001GG-22M) is Henry’s smoothbore lever action and if you are not familiar with it, the whole point is that it is purpose-built to throw .22 shotshells. No rifling in the barrel by design because rifling and shotshells are not friends. It ruins the pattern and beats up the rifling over time.

The smoothbore keeps things tight and consistent at the ranges you would actually use this gun. The .22 Magnum version holds 12 rounds versus the 15 you get in the .22 LR version but the added authority is worth that trade for a lot of folks. Black ash furniture sets it apart visually from the rest of the H1 family and the whole package comes in at 5.25 lbs. and 36.5″ overall. MSRP is $605.
If you are dealing with snakes, mice, pigeons, or whatever else has decided your property is a free buffet, the .22 Magnum Garden Gun is a meaningful upgrade over the .22 LR version. Things that the .22 LR might only annoy are going to take the .22 Magnum a lot more seriously.

Both guns are available now. Henry’s rimfire stuff tends to move, so if either of these is on your radar it is worth getting on it sooner rather than later. What do you guys and gals think? Is the .22 Magnum chambering enough to get you interested in either of these? Drop your thoughts in the comments below, we always appreciate your feedback!
