The 5.11 Coalition Pant was one of my favorite pairs of pants. I owned three pairs in different colors because they hit that sweet spot between looking like normal clothes and actually being useful. So when 5.11 quietly rolled out the Industry Pant as what appears to be the Coalition’s replacement, I had to see what changed.
5.11 Coverage on AllOutdoor:
Specifications: 5.11 Industry Pant
The Industry Pant carries over the same DNA as the Coalition but with a few meaningful upgrades. The core construction remains that 9.5-oz cavalry twill blend (98% cotton/2% elastane) with Traverse pocketing material. The enzyme stone wash and two-side brushing process that made the Coalition so comfortable right out of the package is still here.
- Fit: Straight, mid-rise
- Fabric: 9.5-oz cavalry twill (98% cotton/2% elastane), enzyme stone washed, two-side brushed
- Pocketing: 87% polyester/13% elastane Traverse material, 4.7-oz
- Pockets: 9 total (up from 8 on Coalition)
- Features: Articulated knees, knee pad pockets, reinforced belt loops with center back webbing, stretch gussets
- Colors: Mushroom, Duck Brown, Volcanic, Ranger Green
- Sizes: 28-44 waist
- Inseams: 30, 32, 34, 36
The price jumped from $80 to $98. That’s an 18-dollar increase, which stings a bit for pants I’d happily buy multiples of. But 5.11 runs sales frequently enough that patient shoppers can usually catch a deal.
“The Industry Pant embodies 5.11® craftsmanship—reinforced seams, stretch gussets, and articulated knees designed for long days outdoors or on the job.”
What Changed from the Coalition
If you put an Industry Pant next to a Coalition, you might have a hard time spotting the differences at first glance. The overall silhouette and styling are nearly identical. That’s not a complaint. 5.11 took something that worked and refined it rather than reinventing it.

The biggest change is the addition of internal knee pad pockets. The Coalition had articulated knees but no provision for pads. The Industry Pant now accepts inserts, which makes these far more practical for anyone who spends time on their knees. There’s also an additional pocket bringing the total to nine. The extra storage comes from yoke pockets on the rear. Inside the right hand pocket, there’s a small loop that seems intended for a knife clip, pen, or maybe a spare magazine. Odd placement, but it’s there if you want it.

Out & About: 5.11 Industry Pant
I’ve been wearing these regularly since they showed up. My pair is the Volcanic colorway, which is essentially black. They fit true to my usual 5.11 sizing at 34/34, and the straight fit looks good without being tight or baggy.

These pants shine as work pants. I cut a lot of wood since we heat our home with a wood stove, and the Industry Pant handles that environment well. Walking through brush, hauling logs, getting dirty, they take it and clean up fine. They’re equally at home behind a desk at work or running errands around town. That was the Coalition’s strength too, and it carries over here.

Comfort was good right out of the bag, but improved after a couple of washes. The brushed twill softens up nicely without losing structure. Mobility is excellent. Squatting, kneeling, climbing in and out of vehicles, nothing binds or pulls. I’m wearing them right now as I write this, which says something about how they feel over long periods.

The knee pad pockets were something I wanted to test properly, so I ordered some generic inserts off Amazon rather than wait for 5.11’s own pads to ship. That turned out to be the right call. The 5.11 website doesn’t offer much in the way of compatibility information or measurements for their knee pads, so going third-party was faster and gave me what I needed. The pads fit well, stayed in place, and actually made a noticeable difference when kneeling on hard surfaces. For hunting or any work that puts you on your knees regularly, this is a welcome addition.
Final Thoughts: 5.11 Industry Pant
The Industry Pant is what happens when 5.11 listens to feedback and makes targeted improvements to an already solid product. If you liked the Coalition, you’ll like these. If you never tried the Coalition but want pants that look normal, feel comfortable, and actually have useful features for people who work or spend time outdoors, the Industry Pant delivers.
The price increase is the only real downside, and even that’s manageable if you watch for sales. These have earned a spot in my regular rotation alongside my ABR Pro pants, and honestly, the Industry Pant is probably going to see more use in most situations outside of hot weather.

In closing, I want to say thank you to 5.11 Tactical for allowing AllOutdoor and myself the opportunity to try out their Industry Pant. That is greatly appreciated.
