Deck boots have become a regular part of many anglers’ wardrobes in Louisiana over the past few years, and for good reason. They’re comfortable, easy to slip on and off, and when the day is over you can simply rinse them off and they’re clean again. Personally, I probably have more deck boots than tennis shoes at this point. Between fishing trips, boat ramps and muddy banks, they’ve become one of the most versatile pieces of gear an angler can own. On my latest fishing trip I had the chance to try out a the Huk Rogue Wave deck boots.

Test Conditions
My first trip with the Rogue Wave boots came on a crappie fishing trip on the Tickfaw River in Southeast LA. With the weather warming, I wanted to check if the crappie were starting to move up along the shoreline for the spawn. The Tickfaw is a freshwater river lined with cypress trees and plenty of muddy banks, slick boat ramps and wet boat decks, which made it a perfect place to test a pair of waterproof fishing boots. I spent the day fishing shiners under a cork along the bank and moving around the boat while adding fish to the livewell. It gave me a good chance to see how the boots handled comfort, traction and waterproof performance in real fishing conditions.
First Impressions: Huk Rogue Wave Deck Boots
The first thing I noticed when I pulled these boots out of the box was the look. I chose the grey Rogue Wave boots and they have a clean design that looks sharp without being flashy. They remind me of a rubber slip-on style boot but built specifically for fishing.
When I first put them on at the house, they slipped on easily with the help of the pull loop on the back of the boot. I was wearing ankle socks and almost switched to longer socks because I thought the inside of the boot might rub my ankles or legs. I ended up leaving the ankle socks on and it didn’t make any difference. The boots felt comfortable right away and I didn’t notice any rubbing or irritation.
Sizing is always something I worry about when ordering shoes online, but the sizing on these boots was dead on. They weren’t too wide either, which is something I’ve run into with other deck boots.

Comfort & Fit: Huk Rogue Wave Deck Boots
Comfort is probably the biggest thing I noticed during my first trip with these boots. Once I started fishing, I honestly forgot I was even wearing them.
The neoprene interior feels soft and flexible, and the boot has a comfortable rounded toe that doesn’t make your feet feel cramped. I spent the day moving around the boat, checking lines and reaching into the livewell to add crappie as I caught them, and the boots stayed comfortable the entire time.
Even wearing ankle socks, I never experienced any rubbing or pressure points. For a waterproof rubber boot, that’s impressive.

Traction: Huk Rogue Wave Deck Boots
Fishing boats can get slick in a hurry, especially when you’re handling fish or dealing with water on the deck. Throughout the day I was constantly walking across the boat to the livewell to drop in crappie, and the boots never slipped once.
The Grip-X outsole pattern does a great job grabbing the deck, and I always felt stable moving around the boat.
For anyone who spends time on wet boat decks, docks or ramps, traction like this is a big deal.

Durability & Materials: Huk Rogue Wave Deck Boots
I’ve only had the chance to test these boots on one trip so far, so only time will tell how they hold up long term. That said, the materials feel tough and well built.
At one point I reeled in several crappie and stepped on them on the deck to keep them from flopping around. Anyone who has handled crappie knows their dorsal spines can be sharp. Even with those spines pressing into the boot, they didn’t puncture or damage the outer material.
Based on the build quality and the toughness of the rubber exterior, they seem like they should hold up well.

Waterproofing / Breathability: Huk Rogue Wave Deck Boots
Waterproof performance is exactly what you’d expect from a deck boot like this. My feet stayed dry all day on the water.
Between handling fish, walking around the wet boat deck and dealing with splash from the river, there were plenty of chances for water to get inside a poorly designed boot. That never happened with the Rogue Waves.
As far as breathability goes, they felt comfortable throughout the day and didn’t make my feet feel overly hot.

Weight & Agility: Huk Rogue Wave Deck Boots
These boots have a solid feel to them but they never felt heavy or bulky.
They’re easy to move around in and didn’t slow me down at all while fishing. Whether I was reaching for the livewell, walking around the boat or adjusting rods, they allowed me to move naturally.
For a waterproof fishing boot, the balance between protection and mobility is right where it should be.

Aesthetics & Style: Huk Rogue Wave Deck Boots
The Rogue Wave boots have a clean, modern look that I really like. The grey colorway I tested looks sharp and doesn’t scream work boot.
These are the kind of boots you could easily wear around the marina, boat launch or even running errands after a fishing trip.

Value for Money: Huk Rogue Wave Deck Boots
Fishing gear isn’t cheap these days, but a good pair of deck boots can make a big difference in comfort and safety on the water.
Based on the comfort, traction and waterproof performance I experienced on my first trip, these boots feel like they are well worth the price. If they continue to hold up over time, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another pair.

Final Thoughts: Huk Rogue Wave Deck Boots
After my first trip wearing the Huk Rogue Wave deck boots, I came away impressed. They slipped on easily, fit true to size and stayed comfortable throughout a full day of fishing on the Tickfaw River. The traction on the boat deck was excellent and the waterproof construction kept my feet dry the entire time.
One thing to keep in mind is that these boots probably aren’t designed for extremely cold weather. That’s not really an issue for anglers here in Louisiana though. Our winters are mild enough that these boots can easily be worn year round, and if temperatures drop into the 40s you can always throw on a thicker pair of socks.
For anglers who spend a lot of time on boats, docks or wet ramps, the Rogue Wave boots offer a comfortable and dependable option. After one trip I can already tell these boots are going to become a regular part of my fishing gear.
