Installation & Setup – Moultrie Edge 3 Cellular Trail Camera

When it comes to the installation and setup of the Moultrie Edge 3 cellular trail camera it is as easy as it gets. They have a QR code in the packaging that you can scan and then you simply get walked through a series of prompts to get it all setup. Easy peasy!

This includes a Live Aim feature to ensure that you get your cellular trail camera orientated properly your first try (not a week later after you realize through photos coming in that it is all wrong).

To ensure your setup goes as swimmingly as possible, Moultrie has deployed something they call Nationwide Multi-Carrier Coverage, meaning you can automatically connect your Moultrie Edge 3 to the strongest signal possible across all major networks at any given time. So, you’re never left without a signal if any possible signal is, in fact, present.

Field Use – Moultrie Edge 3 Cellular Trail Camera

So, how did the Moultrie Edge 3 cellular trail camera perform out in the field under real-world use?… I have had this Moultrie Edge 3 cellular trail camera for several months now. Since the original announcement date this year back in July.

After 2 1/2 months of use, the battery is still at an astounding 96%. I get little to no false triggers on the camera (the wind making grass blow, etc), which likely aids in the superb battery life of this camera. So, every photo that is pouring in is of something meaningful, and for me, it is all data being accrued so I can make the best decision as to: when to hunt, where, for how long, etc.

I have had the opportunity to monitor some does and doe fawns the past several months as they come out onto our farm field and feed around dusk and dawn.

Some people might see this as a bit boring, but the movements of does will become much more important the closer we get to the rut later this fall.

This is my wife and I driving to the back of our property where we used to have our honeybees located, and its important to us that this cellular trail camera serves the dual-purpose of surveying wildlife, but also simply watching our property boundaries for unsolicited trespassers.

I have also been impressed by the night time photos that the Moultrie Edge 3 captures along with the clarity and color. Out of all of the cellular trail cameras I have used in the past, I have never had one take such vivid pictures at night.

This sneaky, old doe has some nice color to her for a nighttime photo.

Final Thoughts

So, what are my final thoughts on the Moultrie Edge 3 cellular trail camera after several months of use?… Overall, I have once again come away impressed by Moultrie’s latest cellular trail camera. Every new iteration isn’t a complete reinvention of the wheel, but what they do amazingly well is bring meaningful, incremental changes and improvements to every model. And that is evident in the Moultrie Edge 3.
