In an effort to enhance the ecosystem and fishery, the Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) Florida has released 25,000 juvenile redfish into Cinco Bayou in Okaloosa County. The redfish release was done in collaboration with Destin-Fort Walton Beach as a multi-year collaborative response to a decline in redfish numbers in the Panhandle region of Florida. The redfish that were released were about two to four inches in length, and if all goes well in their futures, should take about three years to reach about 26 inches in length. One of the most popular inshore species of gamefish in the US, redfish are capable of living up to 40 years and reaching over 90lbs. This release of juvenile red fish was their third release and marks another step in CCA Florida’s ongoing commitment to sustaining Florida’s marine resources.

Panhandle Region Redfish Regulations
- The western boundary is located at the Florida-Alabama border, and the region extends east near Alligator Point. Does not include all waters of the Ochlockonee Bay, the Ochlockonee River, and its tributaries.
- Season: Open year-round
- Slot Limit: Not less than 18″ and no more than 27″ total length
- Daily Bag Limit: 1 fish per person per day; 4 fish vessel limit
