Daiwa has come a long way with its star-drag reel tech since the 1960s Millionaire reel. Always improving upon their work, Daiwa has brought out the new feature-rich and rugged 2025 Saltist SD conventional reel. This new reel comes with a solid machined aluminum frame and side plate for added rigidity and durability. The aluminum side plate also now screws into the frame to increase the integrity of the reel further and help keep water and grit out of the reel. Daiwa has also kept anglers who prefer casting with conventional reels in mind, with the new dynamo braking system. A centrifugal braking system that helps reduce spool overrun and backlashes. The new 2025 Saltist SD is available in six sizes (15, 20, 30, 35, 40, 50), and has an MSRP range of $279.99 to $309.99 depending on the size.

Daiwa 2025 Saltist SD Conventional Reel Key Features
- One-Piece Aluminum Frame & Sideplate – The frame and sideplate are machined from high-strength diecast aluminum for rigidity and strength. The Sideplate is threaded and screws directly into the frame to improve integrity and prevent water and debris intrusion.
- Centrifugal Casting Brake –Small weights are attached to the spool that move outward due to centrifugal force as the spool spins during a cast and contact the brake drum to help slow the spool and prevent backlashing.
- Digigear –DAIWA’s digitally cut, machined gearing system ensures precise meshing of the main gear and pinion gear, which results in exceptional smoothness and vibration control, increased durability, and efficient power transfer from the handle to the rotor.
- Waterproof Carbon Drag ATD (Automatic Tournament Drag) – Daiwa’s Automatic Tournament Drag uses an improved drag grease that exhibits a low viscosity at rest, yet becomes more viscous immediately after drag start-up.
